Burma wants Thai employers to take their migrant workers to processing points within Burma, a procedure that Thai authorities say is difficult and time consuming. The Thai FM will discuss the issue during a visit to Burma next month, says Manoon Punyakriyakorn, director general of Department of Employment. There are about 500,000 Burmese workers currently registered in Thailand. Many of the migrants had been forced to flee Burma with their families, says Migrant Assistance Program. Khin Nyunt who was also chief of intelligence was feard by most commanders in contrast to Soe Win who is junior to most of the senior officers in the army including Kyaw Win, Tin Aye, Khin Maung Than, Maung Bo, Thein Sein and others. Outside, he disgraced himself after he said in 2004 at Vientiane he wasn't informed of Aung San Suu Kyi's extended detention. (Irrawaddy) 24 April 2007A new report titled Development by Decree: The Politics of Poverty and Control in Karen State released today says development implemented under the SPDC is "synonymous with control!" Aid needs to be implemented in a way that "minimizes its har 酒店打工ms and maximizes its benefit." The SPDC claims that model villages where villagers are being forcibly relocated are places where the regime supports development, but in Karen State, model villages are more like concentration camps. They lack clean water, sanitation facilities, schools and clinics and enough farmland, writes Karen Human Rights Group. (Irrawaddy) 25 April 2007Kevin HeppnerKHRG report suggesting UN agencies working in Burma are helping to keep the military regime in power challenged by UN Office of the Humanitarian Coordinator in Myanmar in a press statement. The UN strictly adheres to basic humanitarian principles, it says. KHRG meanwhile says given the restrictive environment in which international aid agencies operate, it is questionable how these principles can be adhered to.
